On June 29th, the Digital Beehive B-Team embarked on their maiden Dragon Boat voyage at the Leeds Waterfront Festival. The team was buzzing with excitement, hopes were high and we were ready to make waves for a good cause: raising £1,000 for the Canal & River Trust!
The Canal & River Trust works tirelessly with volunteers and communities across England and Wales to preserve, maintain, and transform our canals and rivers into cherished spaces for relaxation and recreation. Our goal was to support their invaluable work, and we succeeded by raising £1,000!
The Race Day: Excitement, challenges, and triumphs
The day was filled with high energy and team spirit as the Digital Beehive crew, a mix of seasoned rowers and enthusiastic novices, took to the water.
Lauren Flatt, our Strategic Account Manager, embraced the role of Drummer, guiding our crew with rhythm and enthusiasm from her high perch at the front of the boat.
Heat 1: With a strong start, we secured 3rd place, fuelling our optimism.
Heat 2: Our over-enthusiasm led to an unexpected capsize and a Did Not Finish (DNF).
Heat 3: Despite a valiant effort, we didn’t make the semi-finals, but our determination never wavered.
A commendable finish
Against fierce competition, we paddled to an impressive 7th place out of 26 teams. We’re already eyeing next year’s race, aiming high, to surpass the three times victorious “How to Condition your Dragon,” who clocked an amazing 57.73 seconds across the 225m stretch!
Nick Ives, Managing Director and crew member, shared his thoughts: “Our participation in the Leeds Waterfront Festival Dragon Boat Race showcases Digital Beehive’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. By raising funds for the Canal & River Trust, we contribute to preserving our beautiful waterways and embody the spirit of collaboration and social awareness central to our company values.”
